HBA Scholarship program 2026 – Despoina Tsakris

Despoina (Deny) Tsakri is a medical doctor, Microbiology Resident at Laiko General Hospital of Athens, and a PhD candidate at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her diverse research portfolio focuses on antimicrobial resistance, phage therapy, and innovative therapeutic approaches to neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease. Deny has cultivated a robust international profile through research fellowships and clinical rotations at leading institutions, including Columbia University’s Ultrasound and Elasticity Imaging Laboratory, University College London, and King’s College Hospital. An active contributor to her field, she has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in journals such as the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, Brain Stimulation, and the Journal of Clinical Microbiology. Having presented her work at major global congresses, including ESCMID and ERS, Deny is dedicated to bridging the gap between advanced laboratory research and transformative clinical practice.
