HBA Scholarship program 2026 – Athina Lisgara

It is a great honor to receive the HBA-USA scholarship, which is a meaningful source of support as I continue my Ph.D. training in Environmental Health Sciences at Yale University. My background is in Environmental Engineering, and I hold an Integrated Master’s Degree from the University of Patras. My doctoral research uses advanced multi-omics approaches and spatial proteomics to investigate how environmental exposures contribute to Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis, with the goal to identify early biomarkers. This summer, I will join Dr. Susan Sumner’s laboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for advanced training in LC-MS-based metabolomics. Training in Dr. Susan Sumner’s laboratory will help me build stronger expertise in metabolomics and exposome research in a leading environment focused on how molecular changes relate to health, disease, and environmental exposures. The scholarship from HBA-USA will critically support this important step in my scientific development and strengthen my goal of contributing to impactful biomedical research.
