The HBA-USA South Board was formed in response to the lack of representation of Greek bioscientific organizations in the Southern US and the need to expand the mission and contributions of the Hellenic Bioscientific Community across the country. The HBA-USA chapter serving the Southern region will be based in Atlanta, GA, and Houston, TX. This chapter aims to address the specific needs and dynamics of the local Greek scientific community, helping HBA-USA better serve key institutions, including the University of Georgia, Georgia State University, Emory University, Georgia Tech, CDC, MD Anderson, and Baylor College of Medicine.
Since its inception, the HBA-USA South chapter has successfully recruited five Greek students as visiting scholars, with two of them transitioning into Ph.D. programs. The chapter has also provided support for settling in the US, including assistance with graduate program applications. Additionally, we held three virtual seminars, which were well-received and successful, with plans to expand these events in the near future.
We believe this initiative will greatly benefit both the local Greek scientific communities in the South and the broader HBA-USA infrastructure.
