Joining “Bridges” of the National Documentation Center (EKT) to the fight against “Brain Drain”

The Hellenic Bioscientific Association in the USA and the Knowledge & Partnership Bridges (https://www.knowledgebridges.gr) of National Documentation Centre (EKT) in Greece have partnered to create a unique portal that will facilitate connection and functional networking among Greek bioscientists in Greece and USA. Through joint participation in networking and scientific events either in Greece or in the USA as well as data sharing, including career opportunities and mapping of Greek bioscientists, we aim to address the so-called “Brain Drain” and counterbalance its effects.

In this framework, HBA-USA was invited last month by Dimitris Maragos (communication specialist at EKT and Bridges initiative coordinator) to join Bridges and participate in two different events, the Career Talks 2018 (Ioannina, November 8-9) organized by the University of Ioannina (http://dasta.uoi.gr) and the 69th Panhellenic Conference of the Hellenic Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Larissa, November 23-25). In both events, HBA-USA was represented by Dr. Anastasia Nikolopoulou (Assistant Professor in Radiology at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York) of the HBA board of directors who had the opportunity to communicate the individual programs and the vision of HBA-USA to the participants. Dr Nikolopoulou also initiated discussions for close collaboration with the University of Ioannina (represented by Efi Geronimaki, Chief of DASTA operations at UOI) and the Greek branch of EURAXESS Researchers in Motion (represented by Dimitrios Sanopoulos).
