HBA Scholarship program 2026 – 2nd Cycle (Secondary Award) – Antonios Athanasiadis

I am deeply honored and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the HBA-USA Scholarship Award. This generous support enabled me to attend the 2026 International HBV Meeting in Singapore, where I presented my research and received the Best Oral Presentation Award.

I am a Greek PhD candidate in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Emory University School of Medicine and work in Dr. Eleftherios Michailidis’ laboratory. My research uses CRISPR-based approaches and human liver models to identify host factors that regulate hepatitis B virus infection, with an emphasis on interferon-stimulated antiviral proteins.

Presenting this work in Singapore provided valuable scientific feedback and new opportunities for international collaboration. I sincerely thank HBA-USA for supporting young Greek scientists like me and for making this experience possible.
