It is a great honour to be a recipient of the HBA scholarship program. I am a final year Medical Student at the University of Patras, Greece, committed to a career as a physician-scientist. Graduating Medical School with strong clinical and basic science training has always been a priority, leading me to work in several laboratory settings in my Medical School and at Institut Pasteur in Paris. At this very early stage in my career, getting accepted at the Cochella Lab at Johns Hopkins Medical School for a 2-month research elective is a fascinating opportunity to dive into genetics, combining my passion for developmental biology with C. elegans gene regulation. Expanding my skillset and approach to science while getting introduced to the highly stimulating research environment of the USA will likely be determining for my research-directed goals. I feel deeply grateful to be supported by HBA-USA in an opportunity crucial for my future academic steps.
