The Next Generation Initiative’s first endowed scholarship, the Archimedes Award is a scholarship for graduating high school seniors of Hellenic heritage, who are on track to be first-year university students, and who will be pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) related fields at a recognized institution of higher learning in the United States.
The Archimedes Award will be given in recognition of that student’s demonstrated academic excellence in the study of science, technology, engineering or math, as judged by an independent selection committee composed of university professors and experts with records of experience in STEM education. Qualified students are invited to apply online, and submit an application letter to the Archimedes Award selection committee, describing his or her academic career achievements and goals. The online application includes instructions for where to send copies of a student’s high school transcript, identifying the student’s grade point average, documenting the student’s record of academic achievement in the study of science, technology, engineering or math, along with recommendations from the student’s teachers in those fields, and any other materials that may help the selection committee understand the student’s interests and passions when it comes to one or more those specific fields.
Applications to receive the Archimedes Award scholarship for the 2015-16 academic year are now being accepted. To be considered for the 2015-16 Archimedes Award scholarship, a candidates’ completed application, including transcripts and letters of recommendation, must be received by the selection committee by March 1, 2015.
